20 features and 5 immersive projects will be presented at the international co-production market at IFFR 2023.<\/a><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) announces its selection of 20 feature film projects and 5 immersive projects for the 40th edition of CineMart, the festival\u2019s co-production market which will take place from Sunday 29 January to Wednesday 1 February during IFFR 2023.\u00a0Following two online editions, the market is hosted in-person for the first time since 2020.\u00a0Filmmakers from Indonesia, Paraguay, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Ukraine are found amongst the lineup which features hip-hop, migration, gender fluidity and a cowboy.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CineMart 2023 selection<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Apetown<\/strong>\u00a0by Kurt Oderson is a South African urban story weaving together hip-hop, graffiti, segregation and camaraderie. Anna Zamecka\u2019s hybrid documentary\u00a0S\u0142o\u0144ce<\/strong>\u00a0follows the stories of young Iraqi-Kurds making the journey to Belarus. In\u00a0Boifriend<\/strong>, UK-based Jack Goessens presents a character-driven story on the fluidity of gender and sexuality, exploring dysphoria and euphoria. Set in Dordrecht in the Netherlands, Marta Parlatore explores a Polish migrant\u2019s struggle between creative expression and motherhood in\u00a0Grushka<\/strong>, which also takes part on\u00a0the BoostNL programme<\/a>.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sweden\u2019s Plattform Produktion returns to CineMart to present\u00a0Redoubt<\/strong>\u00a0by John Skoog, a continuation of a 2014 short of the same name, on a portrait of a farm-worker Karl-G\u00f6ran Persson who turned his home into a fortress.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several titles in the selection have previously been supported by IFFR\u2019s Hubert Bals Fund (HBF).\u00a0Manta Ray<\/a>\u00a0(IFFR 2019) director Phuttiphong Aroonpheng presents a confrontation between a displaced migrant and the Thai government official who burnt his house down in\u00a0The Burning Giants<\/strong>. In Barbara Sarasola-Day\u2019s\u00a0Little War<\/strong>, an Anglo-Argentine family at the foot of the Andes confront the on-coming Malvinas war. Marina Stepanska explores the lives of three generations of Ukrainian women in\u00a0Consider Vera<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A young woman\u2019s journey through Colombia in search of her missing brother\u2019s vanished spirit is the premise for\u00a0Las tierras que te buscan<\/strong>\u00a0by Juanita Onzaga, whose short work of \u2018ancestral futurism\u2019\u00a0Tomorrow Is a Water Palace<\/a>\u00a0screened in competition at IFFR 2022.\u00a0 Pablo Lamar won the Special Jury Award in the Tiger Competition at IFFR 2016 for his debut\u00a0La \u00faltima tierra<\/a>, and now presents\u00a0Remanso<\/strong>\u00a0set in the 1970s during the dictatorship in Paraguay.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of a cooperation between CineMart and WEMW (When East Meets West), the co-production forum at Trieste Film Festival,\u00a0When the Kids Sing the Hits\u00a0<\/strong>by Mina Djukic will have the chance to present at both markets. The project is a portrait of three friends during the last days of Yugoslavia.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

IFFR Pro Immersive<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Five projects comprise the lineup of immersive projects at CineMart, chosen from those presented on the Content strand of Impulse at VRDays\u2019s Immersive Tech Week. Rapper, artist and filmmaker Baloji (Zombies<\/a>, IFFR 2020) presents\u00a0Anti-Muse<\/strong>: a surreal narrative combining music, dance and scenography set amongst the tropical plants of the Royal Greenhouses, a symbol of Belgian colonisation of Congo.\u00a0Gay Simulator\u00a0<\/strong>by Iris van der Meule is an interactive virtual reality artwork and video game which will immerse the user in the experiences of a lesbian girl.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

IFFR Pro 2023<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

IFFR is set to welcome back industry, press and audiences for a full on-site return from 25 of January to 5 February. CineMart takes place from Sunday 29 January to Wednesday 1 February.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IFFR Pro Awards will be presented on Tuesday 31 January, including the\u00a0Eurimages Co-production Development Award<\/a>, the\u00a0ARTEKino International Prize<\/a>, the\u00a0Wouter Barendrecht Award<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a04DR Studios Award<\/a>. A brand new award will also be given in partnership with\u00a0VIPO<\/a>\u00a0(Visual Industry Promotion Organisation), which promotes the Japanese content industry.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IFFR Pro Hub will open for its programme of round-tables and expert sessions from Friday 27 January. The training programme for emerging producers\u00a0Rotterdam Lab<\/a>\u00a0also returns, this year inviting back select participants from the previous two online editions alongside new producers selected for 2023. An IFFR Pro Talk is scheduled for Monday 30 January.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

IFFR Pro Darkroom<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

New to the industry lineup this year is the Darkroom programme of work-in-progress screenings for select former CineMart and HBF projects, taking place on Wednesday 1 February 2023. Selected teams will receive expert consultancy and have the chance to present their work for an exclusive panel of international sales agents, festival programmers and buyers. The selection will be announced in January 2023.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
