The Basque festival close out their daring Zabaltegi Tabakalera section with our IFFR 2025 Tiger Award-winner, <strong>Fiume o morte!<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Toronto International Film Festival (4\u201314 September)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the world premieres hosted at TIFF was <strong>Amoeba<\/strong> by Siyou Tan, a rebellious coming-of-age story of four teenage girls in Singapore, and <strong>Bayaan<\/strong> by Bikas Ranjan Mishra, a tense Indian drama about a rookie detective (Huma Qureshi) confronting entrenched power and silence. French actor Denis Lavant (<strong>Holy Motors<\/strong>) stars as a farm worker who, at the peak of the Cold War, compulsively transforms his house into a fortress to protect himself and his puzzled neighbours from an enemy attack.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The film was produced by Plattform Produktion, founded by Ruben Ostlund and Erik Hemmendorff, and is a Dutch co-production together with Amsterdam\u2019s Lemming Film.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Costa Rican filmmaker Kim Torres presents her HBF+Europe-supported debut feature <strong>Si no ardemos, c\u00f3mo iluminar la noche <\/strong>in the same section. In the film, the thirteen-year-old Laura must navigate a new rural home amid forests and endless palm plantations, where violence lingers like a shadow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image Sasnal screens in in the \u201cDare\u201d section.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Update: Hubert Bals Fund-supported Nuestra Tierra wins BFI London Film Festival\u2019s Best Film for 2025<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nuestra Tierra<\/strong> by Lucrecia Martel \u2013 supported three times by the HBF (HBF Development 2019, NFF+HBF 2020, Dutch Post-production Award 2021) \u2013 won Best Film at the BFI London Film Festival!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lucrecia Martel\u2019s documentary explores the long history of colonialism and land dispossession in Latin America, chronicling the 2009 murder of Javier Chocobar, an Indigenous community leader in the north of Argentina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith deep empathy and extraordinary journalistic and cinematic rigor\u201d said the jury, \u201cMartel emerges with a portrait of \u2013 and for \u2013 an Indigenous community, and grants them a measure of the justice the courts have long denied them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image
