We\u2019re proud to announce the recipient of our sixth annual Roby M\u00fcller Award: British cinematographer Lol Crawley, most recently known for Brady Corbet\u2019s epic post-war drama The Brutalist <\/strong>(2024). <\/strong>The award honours the behind-the-lens artistry of image makers who, in the spirit of the late Dutch cinematographer Robby M\u00fcller, have created a striking visual language throughout their work. During IFFR 2025, Crawley will give an IFFR Talk on his work, accompanied by a screening of The Brutalist<\/strong>, which marks the Dutch premiere of the film.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

The jury for this year\u2019s Robby M\u00fcller Award noted: \u201cLol Crawley\u2019s camera is dedicated to the story and characters in a way that is both humble and ardent. It forms a close, dynamic relationship with them. His sensual cinematography embraces the environment as unpredictable and fluid and aims to align with its flow rather than confine it to a predefined frame.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In collaboration with the Netherlands Society of CInematographers (NSC) and Andrea M\u00fcller-Schirmer, the wife of the late celebrated cinematographer Robby M\u00fcller, IFFR pays an yearly homage to the artistry of an exceptional image maker (director of photography, filmmaker or visual artist).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last edition\u2019s Robby M\u00fcller Award recipient was Belgian cinematographer Grimm Vandekerckhove, following awards for H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Louvart, Sayombhu Mukdeeprom, Kelly Reichardt and Diego Garcia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Lol Crawley<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lol Crawley, BSC (1974) is an award-winning director of photography with more than 25 years of experience in film and television. His work has been nominated for and\/or won BAFTA Awards, Independent Spirit Awards, International Festival Awards, VMAs and ASC awards. His feature film work includes The Brutalist <\/strong>(2024), White Noise <\/strong>(2022), The Humans <\/strong>(2021), The Childhood of a Leader <\/strong>(IFFR 2015), 45 Years <\/strong>(2015), Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom <\/strong>(2013) and Ballast <\/strong>(2008). His television credits include Black Mirror <\/strong>(2011), The OA <\/strong>(2016 – 2019), The Crimson Petal and the White <\/strong>(2011), and Utopia <\/strong>(2013 – 2014). He has also shot commercials for many brands including Volvo, BMW, Mercedes, Adidas, Samsung and Dior, and his music promo work includes Bob Dylan\u2019s Shadow Kingdom alongside promos for Arcade Fire, Nick Cave and Coldplay. Originally from the UK, Lol is currently based in Los Angeles and works internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t
