The artistic quality of an application is the main criteria for selection. The selection committee will also look closely at the viability of a project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For its Development category, the HBF is looking to support feature length fiction projects in early development. We particularly encourage applications from territories that have historically not been often supported by the fund. Shorts and films made for television will not be taken in consideration. Documentary projects are advised to apply to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.idfa.nl\/industry\/idfa-bertha-fund.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IDFA Bertha Fund<\/a>&nbsp;of the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In some specific cases, the Hubert Bals Fund has supported creative documentary films such as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/ningdu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Ningdu<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;and Lucrecia Martel\u2019s ongoing project&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/film\/global\/lucrecia-martel-visions-du-reel-1235596282\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chocobar<\/a>.<\/strong>&nbsp;These films were selected because of their strong cinematic approach. The form is available one week before the deadline. You have one week to submit the complete dossier after notification, you can send it via e-mail to <a href=\"mailto:hbf@IFFR.com\">hbf@IFFR.com<\/a>. It is not possible to extend this one week period, therefore we recommend that you make sure you have the materials available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following materials should be included in the project dossier:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Synopsis (max. 3 pages)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Treatment (max. 12 pages, sending in a script instead of a treatment is not allowed)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Director\u2019s biography and filmography (max. 2 pages)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Director\u2019s statement (max. 3 pages)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Director&#8217;s visual concept and artistic approach (max. 2 pages)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Producer\u2019s biography and filmography (max. 2 pages) (if a producer is attached)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Producer\u2019s statement (max. 3 pages) (if a producer is attached)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Details and\/or deal memo on intellectual property ownership (if a producer is attached)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Budget for script and project development phase<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial plan for total production<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Written explanation on finance strategy (max. 1 page)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Development schedule<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Previous audiovisual work of the director: online available on streaming platform (such as Vimeo and YouTube)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optional: visual reference material (moodboard, teaser, reference pictures)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optional: intended Dutch collaboration(s), e.g. co-producer, crew, services, distributor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides the page restriction for some documents, there are no specific requirements regarding dossier format, font (size) and spacing. These materials should be compiled into one PDF or Word document. All materials should be written in English.
