HBF+Europe is supported by the Creative Europe \u2013 MEDIA programme of the European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/11\/1280-1.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-212412\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Film still: <strong>Estados generales <\/strong>by Mauricio Freyre (HBF+Europe: Post-production Support 2024, FID Marseille, IDFA)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>HBF+Europe supported titles annually premiere to acclaim from critics and audiences across the world, including at IFFR, such as the post-production supported <strong>Holy Electricity<\/strong> by Tato Kotetishvili (Pardo d&#8217;oro \u2013 Cineasti del presente, Locarno 2023, IFFR 2025). So far, 2025 has seen several HBF+Europe world premieres, including the post-production supported films <strong>Olivia<\/strong> by Sof\u00eda Petersen (Locarno) and <strong>Estados generales<\/strong> by Mauricio Freyre (FID Marseille, IDFA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The HBF+Europe: Post-production Scheme has supported 10 projects for post-production since its launch in 2023, joining the HBF+Europe: Minority Co-production Support Scheme which has supported over 50 projects since 2015.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Call for applications 2025<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We are pleased to share that the HBF+Europe schemes have been confirmed for 2025 to 2028. The 2025 deadline was <strong>22 December<\/strong> 2025 and has now passed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The latest HBF+Europe: Post-production Support call is intended to support European minority co-productions that are in post-production stages and do not have any world premiere confirmed until March 2026. The projects should be aimed for their festival premiere and\/or theatrical release from March\/April 2026 onwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Time restrictions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The report of expenditure of HBF+Europe grant must be submitted to the HBF at the latest by 1 March 2028. The cost for the required auditor\u2019s certificate can be part of the budget. Entitlement to funding will be revoked and the funding reclaimed in case of failure to adhere to the time-limits.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The full regulations and eligibility criteria can be found below and in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/hubert-bals-fund\/funding-schemes\/hbfeurope-minority-co-production-support\/hbfeurope-important-documents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Appendix 1 \u2013 eligibility criteria and regulations<\/em><\/a><\/em>. This applicant-friendly document contains precise lists of eligible countries specifically for the HBF+Europe programmes. Please, note it slightly differs from the regular HBF list of eligible countries document. The 15 points previously assigned to sustainability have now been broken down into several detailed elements. Experienced filmmakers making their fourth and further films are still eligible, and will be considered in addition to the priority targets. HBF alumni filmmakers (those who have been supported previously) are welcome to apply at any stage of their career.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The funding is designed for international co-productions, in which at least one European and one non-European producer is involved. The European producer should be the applicant and will conclude the funding agreement. Only 25% of the HBF+Europe funding has to be spent in the applicant\u2019s country of origin, the other 75% can be spent elsewhere.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The scheme is specially designed to encourage European producers from countries with limited co-production schemes to participate. The selection procedure consists of two steps: a formal eligibility check and a selective committee assessment.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>1. Formal eligibility check\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The HBF team will review all applications to assess their eligibility based on the formal criteria outlined under Appendix 1: eligibility criteria and regulations. Only fully completed applications that meet all formal criteria will be taken into further consideration.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>2. Selective committee assessment<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After the formal eligibility check, an external selection committee is formed to assess all eligible\u00a0 applications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The selection committee will consist of various industry professionals invited based on their expertise and complementarity to the overall composition of the committee. Professionals working for festival and industry sides of IFFR are often engaged too. All projects will be evaluated based on the information provided in the <\/span><b>entry form<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><b>full project dossier<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><b>rough cut, supporting documents<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and <\/span><b>visual materials<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The HBF team will use a standardized <\/span><b>assessment form<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that follows the pre-defined Award Criteria (see below). Each main selection criterion will receive a score, with a maximum total of 100 points possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Based on the overall scores, the selection committee will meet, debate and jointly form\u00a0 final decisions.
