The Displacement Film Fund champions and funds the work of displaced filmmakers, or filmmakers with a proven track record in creating authentic storytelling on the experiences of displaced people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Announced at IFFR 2025, the pilot scheme awarded five short film production grants of \u20ac100,000 each to Maryna Er Gorbach (Ukraine), Mo Harawe (Somalia-Austria), Hasan Kattan (Syria), Mohammad Rasoulof (Iran) and Shahrbanoo Sadat (Afghanistan).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The resulting films world premiered at IFFR 2026 and received a five-star review from Peter Bradshaw in The Guardian<\/em><\/a>: “By turns shocking, funny, confessional and deeply mysterious, this is a tremendous collection.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fund was spearheaded by actor, producer and UNHCR Global Goodwill Ambassador Cate Blanchett. With a second edition of the fund now confirmed, IFFR’s Hubert Bals Fund returns as Management Partner, Amahoro Coalition, Master Mind, the Tamer Family Foundation and UNIQLO return as Founding Partners, and UNHCR \u2013 the UN Refugee Agency \u2013 remains Strategic Partner. The SP Lohia Foundation joins as a new Major Partner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of the Fund strongly aligns with the HBF\u2019s history of supporting underrepresented voices, especially with filmmakers from countries where local filming and infrastructure is lacking or restrictive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\t
