Are you looking forward to IFFR 2026, and like a preview of the upcoming festival at a cinema near you? Then come to our nationwide Preview Tour! Before the festival, we will screen a film from our 2026 program in movie theaters and cinemas across the country during the week of January 8th to 15th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IFFR Preview Tour has reached many cinemas in the Netherlands for years and has a wide reach beyond. This year only Dutch movie theaters and cinemas will participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Preview Tour will take place in the week of January 8 to 15, 2026. The film that will be shown in cinemas is Carla Sim\u00f3n\u2019s film \u201cRomer\u00eda<\/a><\/strong>\u201d (2025).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aspiring filmmaker Marina, who lost both parents to addiction and illness when she was young, visits Galicia\u2019s summery coast in search of her origins, and faces a haze of conflicting memories and heart-shattering discoveries. A wistful, sun-kissed portrait from award-winning Spanish filmmaker Carla Sim\u00f3n, based on her own life.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Does sharing the same blood make you part of the same family?” Orphaned when very young,
18-year-old Marina travels to the sunny, coastal city of Vigo, Spain, to finally meet her father\u2019s family and obtain an elusive signature for her scholarship application. Marina meets with an extended clan of uncles, aunts, cousins and grandparents \u2013 a group alternately warm and welcoming, prickly and evasive, wealthy and withholding. In piecing together a picture of her parents, and with her camcorder in hand, Marina navigates memories that contradict one another and heart-shattering new knowledge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winner of Berlinale’s Golden Bear for Alcarr\u00e0s<\/strong> (2022), filmmaker Carla Sim\u00f3n delivers an intimate piece of auto-fiction that achingly portrays the unknowability of our parents. Featuring a luminous central performance from Ll\u00facia Garcia and stunning imagery of Galicia’s rugged coast, Romer\u00eda<\/strong> \u2013 meaning “pilgrimage” \u2013 demonstrates how filmmaking, and storytelling more generally, can be a compelling mode of working through one’s elusive past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
