The Press &amp; Industry Selection was made available on Festival Scope Pro and succeeded in providing a platform for the 221 festival selections, including our flagship competitions, that could not screen to audiences online. Instead, competition selections would be made available to audiences in screening rooms later in 2022. From 14 selected titles in 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/eami\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/eami\"><strong>EAMI<\/strong><\/a> by Paz Encina received the Tiger Award during the online ceremony on 2 February 2022. <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/excess-will-save-us\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/excess-will-save-us\"><strong>Excess Will Save Us<\/strong><\/a> by Morgane Dziurla-Petit and <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/to-love-again\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/to-love-again\"><strong>To Love Again<\/strong><\/a> by Gao Linyang both won Special Jury Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, during the <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/eami-paz-encina-wins-2022-tiger-award\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/eami-paz-encina-wins-2022-tiger-award\">Awards Ceremony<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/kung-fu-zohra\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/kung-fu-zohra\"><strong>Kung Fu Zohra<\/strong><\/a> by Mabrouk El Mechri was awarded the VPRO Big Screen Award by an audience jury. The Ammodo Tiger Short Awards were given to <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/becoming-male-in-the-middle-ages\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/becoming-male-in-the-middle-ages\"><strong>Becoming Male in the Middle Ages<\/strong><\/a> by Pedro Neves Marques, <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/nazarbazi\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/nazarbazi\"><strong>Nazarbazi<\/strong><\/a> by Maryam Tafakory, and <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/nosferasta-first-bite\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/nosferasta-first-bite\"><strong>Nosferasta: First Bite<\/strong><\/a> by Bayley Sweitzer and Adam Khalil. IFFR 2022 presented 54 films to audiences on IFFR.com, the world premiere of Along the Way in cinemas and 5 Big Talks available worldwide from 26 January to 6 February. IFFR also presented a selection of films to press and industry guests on Festival Scope Pro, which included the Tiger Competition, Big Screen Competition and Ammodo Tiger Short Competition lineups.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c<em>Adaptations aside, this festival has made no compromise in its dedication to cinema that thrives in the most risk-taking outer reaches of storytelling. The selection presented titles from <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/iffr-2022-harbour\">Harbour<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/iffr-2022-bright-future\">Bright Future<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/iffr-2022-limelight\">Limelight<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/iffr-2022-cinemacregained\">Cinema Regained<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/filmmaker-in-focus-amanda-kramer\">Focus: Amanda Kramer<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/iffr-2022-scopitone\">Scopitone<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/iffr-2022-rtm\">RTM<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The selection presented 11 world premieres and 5 international premieres.<\/p>\n<p>The world premiere of Amanda Kramer\u2019s feature film <a href=\"https:\/\/filmfestivalrotterdam.us3.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=f5c0800c514bf16b3798f5528&amp;id=bba72cbdc3&amp;e=b8c20e55ec\"><strong>Please Baby Please<\/strong><\/a>, accompanied by Lewie and Noah Kloster\u2019s short film <a href=\"https:\/\/filmfestivalrotterdam.us3.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=f5c0800c514bf16b3798f5528&amp;id=7c7d46b58f&amp;e=b8c20e55ec\"><strong>Stranger Than Rotterdam with Sara Driver<\/strong><\/a>, opened the edition on 26 January. The <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/along-the-way-in-cinemas\">world premiere of <strong>Along the Way<\/strong><\/a> in cinemas added an on-site dimension to IFFR during the festival\u2019s closing weekend. Filmmaker in focus <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/iffr\/2022\/events\/big-talk-amanda-kramer\">Amanda Kramer<\/a> kicked off the programme, discussing her oeuvre and IFFR 2022 opening film <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/iffr\/2022\/films\/please-baby-please\"><strong>Please Baby Please<\/strong><\/a>. Director <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/iffr\/2022\/events\/big-talk-mathieu-amalric\">Mathieu Amalric<\/a>, also an acclaimed actor, divulged details about his rich career on either side of the camera.\u00a0Director and writer <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/iffr\/2022\/events\/big-talk-rachel-lang\">Rachel Lang<\/a> provided context to her latest film <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/iffr\/2022\/films\/mon-l%C3%A9gionnaire\"><strong>Mon L\u00e9gionnaire<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Thai cinematographer and this edition\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/sayombhu-mukdeeprom-receive-robby-muller-award\">Robby M\u00fcller Award winner<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/iffr\/2022\/events\/big-talk-sayombhu-mukdeeprom\">Sayombhu Mukdeeprom<\/a> elaborated on his cinematic language, experiences working with directors like Luca Guadagnino and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and Robby M\u00fcller as an inspiration. The festival also presents a varied educational programme to engage younger audiences.<\/p>\n<h3>Screenings and talks<\/h3>\n<p>In collaboration with KINO cinema in Rotterdam, IFFR organises a year-round curated programme with a variety of festival films from previous editions: <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/iffr-kino\">IFFR KINO<\/a>. From October to December 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/year-round\/2021\/events\/iffr-kino-34-stroszek\"><strong>Stroszek<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/nl\/year-round\/2021\/events\/iffr-kino-35-mi-chiamo-francesco-totti\"><strong>Mi chiamo Francesco Totti<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/nl\/year-round\/2021\/events\/iffr-kino-36-the-spooky-bunch\"><strong>The Spooky Bunch<\/strong><\/a> returned for one-off screenings. Following their premieres at IFFR, the festival also supports the cinematic releases of titles through our communications channels, such as social media and newsletters.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/talks-masterclasses\">Talks &amp; Masterclasses 2022<\/a> presented during the festival programme are available year-round on our website. Due to the global pandemic, IFFR\u2019s sister festival in Cura\u00e7ao, CIFFR, could unfortunately not take place in 2022.<\/p>\n<h3>25 Encounters<\/h3>\n<p>The screening of this year\u2019s closing film, <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/iffr\/2022\/events\/closing-night-dragon-inn\">Dragon Inn<\/a>, also marked the launch of <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/25-encounters?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=direct_mail&amp;utm_campaign=iffr2022&amp;utm_content=press\">25 Encounters<\/a>. The programme comprised 25 conversations between filmmakers and film enthusiasts, among them Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Christine Vachon, Olivier Assayas, Ayoka Chenzira, Ester Martin Bergsmark, Costa-Gavras and Yuasa Masaaki. All encounters have been captured in a <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/25-encounters\">limited edition print publication<\/a>, released with an accompanying film programme of 24 titles curated by the participants. Together with International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) and the European Film Academy (EFA), IFFR founded the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icfr.international\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.icfr.international\/\">International Coalition for Filmmakers at Risk <\/a>(ICFR) in 2020. The organisation\u2019s mission is to advocate for and to act in solidarity with filmmakers facing political persecution for their work.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the war in Ukraine, ICFR and its partners urgently set up an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icfr.international\/news\/emergency-fund-for-filmmakers\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.icfr.international\/news\/emergency-fund-for-filmmakers\/\">Emergency Fund<\/a> to help filmmakers with small financial grants. As soon as the war broke out, the Coalition and the Fund started raising funds and donations. The Emergency Fund provides filmmakers with small funds of \u20ac500, \u20ac1,000 or \u20ac1,500 to be able to assist in covering temporary relocation expenses, legal and administrative fees, to cover initial minor but necessary expenses required during the current situation. Within the first three weeks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icfr.international\/news\/108-filmmakers-helped\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.icfr.international\/news\/108-filmmakers-helped\/\">over 150 filmmakers who were in direct danger were supported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Videoland Academy<\/h3>\n<p>IFFR collaborates year round with the Netherlands Film Festival, IDFA and the Dutch streaming service Videoland on a talent development trajectory for up-and-coming genre filmmakers. 2021 saw the first premieres for work produced on the programme. <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/videoland-academy-celebrates-its-first-premieres\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/videoland-academy-celebrates-its-first-premieres\">Three sci-fi mid-lengths<\/a> premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival in September, before a <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/premiere-videoland-academy-documentary\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/premiere-videoland-academy-documentary\">documentary series<\/a> made its debut on the Videoland platform in February 2022. To further incorporate film education in school curriculums, IFFR has been collaborating with schools such as primary school Gouden Griffel in Rotterdam to set up the Cultuurcoach programme, and Rotterdam-based college Zadkine to offer film classes and career guidance. Workshops were offered covering a wide array of topics in film, including film analysis, soundtracks (with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.watchthatsound.nl\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.watchthatsound.nl\/\">Watch That Sound<\/a>), filmmaking skills (with <a href=\"https:\/\/digitalplayground.nl\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/digitalplayground.nl\/\">Digital Playground<\/a>), and documentary.<\/p>\n<h3>Special events<\/h3>\n<p>On September 26, IFFR collaborated with <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/nl\/year-round\/2021\/events\/kids-only-in-islemunda\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/nl\/year-round\/2021\/events\/kids-only-in-islemunda\">Theatre Islemunda to host its Kids Only<\/a> special event for children aged between nine and twelve, this edition based on <em>Het Andere Koekboek<\/em> by Mirjam Marks and Rianne van Duin. The book\u2019s creators offered an animation workshop following a short film programme related to the book\u2019s meeting of cuisine with stories of displacement.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/meet-iffr-young-selectors-2021\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/meet-iffr-young-selectors-2021\">IFFR Young Selectors<\/a>, continuing their assignment from IFFR 2021, collaborated with Rotterdam Open Doek at LantarenVenster in November to programme <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lantarenvenster.nl\/programma\/srefidensi-dey-wan-pipel\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.lantarenvenster.nl\/programma\/srefidensi-dey-wan-pipel\/\">an event celebrating the anniversary of Surinamese independence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Film and media art heritage project continues<\/h3>\n<p>Together with arts-focused primary school Het Landje and design and architecture museum Het Nieuwe Instituut, IFFR continues with the three-year primary school education programme focused on film and media art heritage titled the <a href=\"https:\/\/press.iffr.com\/190280-iffr-obs-het-landje-en-het-nieuwe-instituut-lanceren-archief-van-verbeelding\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/press.iffr.com\/190280-iffr-obs-het-landje-en-het-nieuwe-instituut-lanceren-archief-van-verbeelding\">Archive of Imagination<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWhat we really need to archive is a reminder for people to take good care of the earth and to be kind to each other.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 Fourth grade primary school pupil during Archive of Imagination<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>IFFR and LantarenVenster<\/h3>\n<p>Taking further steps in their joint efforts, IFFR and Rotterdam cinema LantarenVenster continued to lay the foundations for incorporating film education as an integral part of school curriculums. Together with the Press &amp; Industry Selection of more than 200 films, the programme focused on supporting filmmaking talent by providing a launchpad for their work, their projects, and meaningful connections in process.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cIt made me feel seen and heard. I think under the circumstances the event was well organised and operated, and honestly commend all of you for your commitment to us filmmakers, during a time where we all are trying to find some kind of peace of mind.\u201d <\/em>\u2013 Participating filmmaker<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Learning, meeting and debate<\/h3>\n<p>As in regular editions, the <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/pro-hub\">Pro Hub<\/a> worked to enhance the festival experience for selected filmmakers, connecting them with attending professionals and facilitating exchange and networking. A select programme of expert panels and Pro networking round tables was organised for attending filmmakers, with specially invited guests from diverse backgrounds within the film community.<\/p>\n<p>Five panel discussions were presented as part of <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/iffr-pro-dialogues-2022\">IFFR Pro Dialogues<\/a>. In total, 28 projects were presented: <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/cinemart-selection-2022\">17 CineMart projects<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/boostnl-selection-2122\">7 BoostNL projects<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/VR-projects-confirmed-for-CineMart-2022\">5 IFFR Pro Immersive projects<\/a>. Overall, 656 one-on-one meetings took place and <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/iffr-pro-awards-2022\">seven projects received awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The fifth Immersive project, one more than the previous year, represented an expansion of IFFR Pro\u2019s commitment to XR, which was further strengthened with two new partnerships. Alongside the Immersive Funding Market (IFM), a collaboration between IFFR Pro and VRDays Europe, an extra project was selected from those attending October\u2019s Nouveau march\u00e9 at <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/festival-du-nouveau-cinema-de-montreal\">the Festival du nouveau cin\u00e9ma Montr\u00e9al<\/a>. Volumetric video capture service 4DR Studios, based in Eindhoven, also sponsored <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/steye-hallema-4dr-studios\">a new award for Immersive projects<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Training workshop for producers \u2013 Rotterdam Lab<\/h3>\n<p>This year, the second online edition of <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/rotterdam-lab-2022\">Rotterdam Lab welcomed<\/a> 73 up-and-coming producers, nominated from 46 IFFR Pro partners who sought to broaden their networks and learn vital skills and practices. The lineup included participants from 37 countries and featured a strong female presence, with 46 women out of the total of 73. Programme highlights included a <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/co-production-case-study-clara-sola\">co-production case study<\/a> with the director and producer of IFFR 2022 selection <strong>Clara Sola<\/strong>, and a closing plenary on the topic of preserving mental health in the film industry.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cI really loved being part of the lab! The spring and autumn rounds of the <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/script-and-project-development-support\">Script and Project Development Support<\/a> each awarded development grants to 10 projects, with five projects simultaneously awarded via the <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/nffhbf-co-production-scheme\">NFF+HBF Co-production Scheme<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/hbfeurope-minority-co-production-support\">HBF+Europe: Minority Co-production Support<\/a> supported six further projects, whilst 2022 also marked the final Dutch Post-production Award which was discontinued, after having supported seven titles since 2019.<\/p>\n<p>For an overview of selections, consult <a href=\"https:\/\/cms.iffr.com\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-01\/Complete%20Results_2023.pdf\">the Complete Results document<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The HBF\u2019s collaboration with Brazilian partner Projeto Paradiso came to fruition. The non-profit organisation supports local filmmaking talent and works to bring greater visibility to their films, and in 2021 began awarding increased support to Brazilian projects supported by the HBF for development. Bolivian filmmaker Kiro Russo won the NFF Script Development Award during NFF\u2019s Holland Film Meeting for <strong>Lost Songs From Distant Realms <\/strong>and <strong>Flat Girls<\/strong> by Thai director Jirassaya Wongsutin won two awards: the Cam-a-Lot &amp; Filmmore Emerging Cinema Award and the HFM Market Potential Award. The projects were then <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/cinemart-selection-2022\">presented at CineMart 2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThe Hubert Bals Fund was really essential. We don&#8217;t have any kind of support in my country, but with this I&#8217;m able to write, and to have time to do it \u2013 because time is the most difficult resource to find\u201d <\/em>\u2013 Bolivian director Kiro Russo<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>International success<\/h3>\n<p>The 2021-2022 period saw a total of 11 HBF-backed premieres take place, more than double compared to the previous year. <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/iffr-backed-cannes-premieres\">Six premiered at Cannes<\/a>, including several highly-regarded titles which would take up prominent places on the yearly film circuit. Two projects premiered at Venice, whilst Qiu Jiongjiong\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/a-new-old-play\">A New Old Play<\/a> <\/strong>won the Special Jury Prize at Locarno. Several HBF titles were also nominated as their countries\u2019 Oscar submissions. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/clara-sola\">Clara Sola<\/a><\/strong> by Nathalie \u00c1lvarez Mes\u00e9n picked up five Swedish academy awards in 2022.<\/p>\n<h3>IFFR 2022<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/discover-iffr-supported-titles\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/discover-iffr-supported-titles\">Four HBF-supported features screened<\/a> online to audiences in the Netherlands during IFFR 2022. Audiences were invited to watch all the titles together as <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/iffr-film-packages\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/iffr-film-packages\">part of an HBF ticket bundle<\/a>. Competitions and an expanded programme lineup were available to press and industry guests on Festival Scope Pro. Two HBF-titles screened in the Tiger Competition: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/ningdu\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/ningdu\">N<\/a>ingdu <\/strong>by Chinese director Lei Lei and <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/eami\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/expanded\/2022\/films\/eami\"><strong>EAMI<\/strong><\/a> by Paraguayan director Paz Encina. The <a href=\"https:\/\/press.iffr.com\/209253-along-the-way-to-premiere-in-cinemas-at-iffr-2022?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=direct_mail&amp;utm_campaign=iffr2022&amp;utm_content=press\">world premiere of <strong>Along the Way<\/strong><\/a> in cinemas added an on-site dimension during the festival\u2019s closing weekend, following the lifting of Covid-19 measures and the opening of cinemas on 26 January.<\/p>\n<h3>Online reach in the Netherlands and globally<\/h3>\n<p>The festival registered <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/51st-edition-ends-iffr-show-more-films-later-2022\">177,267 online audience visits<\/a> from 26 January to 6 February 2022. This figure was generated by multiplying the number of tickets by a factor of 1.7 per household. This multiplication factor is based on a survey among nearly 3,500 ticket holders done in 2021. An additional 3,370 tickets were sold for the physical screenings of <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/iffr\/2022\/films\/along-the-way\">Along the Way<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the distinct festival format the attendance and engagement during IFFR 2022 cannot be directly compared to previous editions.<\/p>\n<p>Online screenings were made available to audiences in the Netherlands on IFFR.com. <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/blog\/51st-edition-ends-iffr-show-more-films-later-2022\">40% of audience members<\/a> were based in South Holland, of which Rotterdam is the largest city, while representation in North Holland (which includes Amsterdam, Haarlem and Alkmaar) increased by 8 percentage points to 32%. VPRO and De Volkskrant were offered curated collections of films for the <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/nl\/vpro-en-iffr-2022\">VPRO Preview Dag<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/nl\/vpro-en-iffr-2022\">VPRO Review Dag<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/nl\/volkskrant-en-iffr-2022\">De Volkskrantdag<\/a>. Press produced a large amount of quality coverage, including interviews, previews, reviews, and festival reports.<\/p>\n<h3>Film reviews<\/h3>\n<p>In line with the festival\u2019s commitment to critical engagement with cinema, IFFR generated 343 film reviews across 53 days (starting from the programme announcement on 7 January, until the end of the festival period on 28 February) relayed through IFFR Pro daily newsletters. These press conferences offered competing filmmakers an opportunity to speak with festival director Vanja Kaludjercic and to answer questions from the press about their films.<\/p>\n<h3>Media partners and editorial content<\/h3>\n<p>The 51st festival edition relied on the continued support of its media partners Screen International, Variety, de Volkskrant and VPRO. This is made possible by the efforts of a team of professionals, experts, programmers and scouts, who contribute through research, development and curation.<\/p>\n<p>IFFR is led by a directorial board duo made up of festival director Vanja Kaludjercic (since February 2020) and managing director Marjan van der Haar (since October 2018). Both directors receive a salary that aligns with the WNT standard. IFFR also has a supervisory board made up of six voluntary members with complementary expertise, who convene at least six times a year.<\/p>\n<p>The festival employs a core team of 44 people (40.5 FTE). Closer to the festival, IFFR becomes a project organisation in which temporary employees, freelancers and volunteers work together. The number of people involved in the past year was different to previous years, due to the implications of Covid-19. Ultimately, there were 134 people working for the festival, including 9 trainees, 89 contractors and 54 volunteers. The festival also actively invites students to take up internships and gain experience in the cultural sector.<\/p>\n<h3>Governance<\/h3>\n<p>IFFR follows the <a href=\"https:\/\/fairpracticecode.nl\/nl\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/fairpracticecode.nl\/nl\">Fair Practice Code<\/a>, with particular consideration for the <a href=\"https:\/\/codedi.nl\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/codedi.nl\/\">Diversity and Inclusiveness Code<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cultuur-ondernemen.nl\/governance-code-cultuur\/principe\/introductie?gclid=Cj0KCQjw8IaGBhCHARIsAGIRRYrO1X46yhdyZFawRvSDD3wBqW181T4_KKwfCL_UXRMc1euVsgycqTEaAqjgEALw_wcB\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.cultuur-ondernemen.nl\/governance-code-cultuur\/principe\/introductie?gclid=Cj0KCQjw8IaGBhCHARIsAGIRRYrO1X46yhdyZFawRvSDD3wBqW181T4_KKwfCL_UXRMc1euVsgycqTEaAqjgEALw_wcB\">Culture Governance Code<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Fair Practice Code is applied to the salaries of the IFFR team and freelancers, because IFFR believes a healthy labour market is important to the cultural sector. IFFR has its own employment conditions package, to be updated annually, and follows the municipal CAO (Collective Labour Agreement) guidelines on salaries, to ensure competitive offerings in the labour market. Freelance rates are similarly scaled in accordance with the salary system. Furthermore, based on the Fair Practice Code, IFFR has clarified that freelancers are entitled to additional pay when working overtime.<\/p>\n<p>In the spring of 2021, the IFFR <a href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/who-we-are\/what-we-stand-for\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/iffr.com\/en\/who-we-are\/what-we-stand-for\">code of conduct<\/a> was updated to ensure that everyone \u2013 both visitors and employees \u2013 feels safe and respected at IFFR. The code of conduct provides a clear outline of rules regarding desirable behaviour, undesirable behaviour and conflicts of interest. The code also delineates the procedure for reporting misconduct and violations. IFFR works with internal confidential advisers, as well as external advisers available through <a href=\"https:\/\/mores.online\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/mores.online\">Mores.online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>By signing the Diversity and Inclusiveness Code, IFFR commits to the importance of representation and including a diverse set of voices within the organisation.<\/p>\n<h3>Finances<\/h3>\n<p>IFFR 2022 was realised with a total budget of 8.4 million euros. The government Covid-19 support from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science was again a vital component in the organisation of the festival. Nevertheless, the pandemic has presented significant challenges to the financial stability of IFFR these past two years, meaning the sustainable and resilient future strategy \u2013 which was temporarily put on hold to be able to organise the 51st edition \u2013 will be actively pursued this upcoming year.
