Always wanted to know what goes on at the organisation of one of the biggest film festivals in the Netherlands? Erasmus University Rotterdam and IFFR present a College Tour evening on 3 December, where you can meet Managing Director Clare Stewart and Data Marketing Coordinator Laurin Iveti\u0107. Afterwards, we\u2019ll screen a top film from IFFR 2025: Rains over Babel<\/strong>. The event is open to both the public and students, with a reservation required.<\/p>\n\n\n

With an introduction by lecturer Fraser Robinson (ESHCC), we\u2019ll find out about the build-up towards IFFR 2026. Managing director Clare Stewart will be joined by former ESHCC student and Data Marketing Coordinator Laurin Iveti\u0107to to discuss the importance of data for the festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the film<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Rains over Babel<\/a><\/strong>, Gala del Sol, 2024, Colombia,\u00a0USA,\u00a0Spain, 111′.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Written and directed by Gala del Sol, this peculiar reimagining of Dante\u2019s Inferno<\/em> is a choral queer drama. The action revolves around Babel, a bar where several characters meet with La Flaca \u2013 the very incarnation of Death \u2013 with whom souls can gamble years of their lives in an attempt to outwit her. That\u2019s how we meet Dante, who tries to unravel the secrets of his past before his contract with La Flaca expires; Monet, rushing to reclaim his body before it decomposes; Timb\u00ed and Uma, fighting to save beloved family members; and Jacob, experiencing an inner battle while preparing for his first drag performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Funny, eccentric, romantic, and with huge doses of mysticism and myth, Rains over Babel<\/strong> incorporates a diverse cast of characters with fluid gender identities facing everyday problems: love, intolerance, betrayal, meaning, and salvation. This mystery of haunted memories, forking paths, and intertwined destinies is enveloped in magical realism (take close note of that speaking salamander!), underground punk aesthetics (the production design is spectacular), and goofy visual experimentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
