Join us on Thursday 23 January at CultureHub in Delfshaven for a memorable evening where cinema, fashion sustainability and academia meet. Rethink Apparel, IFFR and CultureHub put together a programme that includes a film, a talk and a Q&A which aims to make us question our fashion choices and general lifestyle as consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n

Have you ever wondered what happens to your clothes after you donate them? Director Teddy Cherim explores this question in his eye-opening short documentary Goodwill Dumping <\/strong>(2019), uncovering the hidden process behind clothing collection and exposing a global waste problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the screening, Erasmus University professors Dr. Luuc Brans and Dr. Mariangela Lavanga will lead an engaging discussion on the present and future of fashion to then open the floor for a Q&A session, giving you the chance to share your thoughts and concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goodwill Dumping<\/strong> is a 26-minute short documentary that exposes the vast global industry behind donated secondhand clothing and its impact on local economies. The film follows the journey of discarded garments, revealing the ripple effects caused by the seemingly simple act of donating an old T-shirt. Through stylised and surreal visuals, including creatures formed from piles of discarded clothing, the documentary offers a striking commentary on the scale and consequences of this globalised trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Rethink Apparel<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Rethink Apparel<\/a> (RA) is the fashion pillar of Erasmus Sustainability Hub, a wave of conscientious students and faculty of Erasmus University Rotterdam embracing a shared responsibility to integrate sustainability into their daily lives. RA is an initiative that aims to raise awareness about the need for environmental and social sustainability within the fashion industry. They host monthly clothing swaps to combat fashion waste in students’ wardrobes and create a big shared wardrobe in the community. They also host other events such as fashion shows, exhibitions, Fashion Revolution Week, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CultureHub<\/a> Rotterdam, founded in 2019 and located at Willem Buytewechstraat 144, is a vibrant cultural centre fostering creativity, diversity, and inclusivity. It offers exhibitions, performances, workshops, and educational programs, creating a welcoming space for artists and audiences from various backgrounds. About the IFFR Filmclub<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Filmclub is a new initiative of IFFR, currently in the pilot phase, where (future) film lovers, young filmmakers and creatives come together to watch films and exchange interests. The idea is that the FilmClub will take place biweekly at various locations throughout Rotterdam, where a mix of (inter)national films, both new and true classics, will be shown in a relaxed setting in combination with discussions, workshops or parties. Whether you are discovering cinema for the first time or are already well on your way as a filmmaker, the Filmclub is a place to get inspired, network or just come and watch a film.
