For the CineMart Awards winners this will be a day that they will not forget. The four awards handed out to CineMart projects at the CineMart Closing Night will often propel the project to completion and the filmmaker to a bright future.

IFFR PRESENTS: THE TIGERS II
14:30-16:00 Hilton Rotterdam Free admission

IFFR festival director Bero Beyer will engage in conversation with participants in the Hivos Tiger Competition. Today he will be joined by the directors of I Have a Date with Spring, Piercing, Possessed and The Widowed Witch. These four filmmakers will speak freely about their sources of inspiration, struggles in filmmaking and the current film market. The audience will be given the chance to quiz our Tigers during a subsequent Q&A

IFFR PRESENTS: SUSTAINABLE CRITICISM
17:00-18:30 Hilton Rotterdam Free admission

This year, the Critics’ Choice programme provides a platform and playground for researching the concept of ‘Sustainable Criticism’. Curators Jan Pieter Ekker and Dana Linssen will talk to a variety of experts and practitioners about the rethinking of film criticism in the post-truth and #metoo era. Topics will range from film criticism beyond the opinion of the industry and service economy to the politically fueled social distrust of journalism and art in general. This session will not only map the dilemmas and obstacles facing film journalism, but also evaluate the various experiments around innovative and transformative new practices and strategies for film critics presented during the festival.

IFFR PRESENTS: PANEL WHAT CONSTITUTES A COUNTRY?
19:00-21:00 Hilton Rotterdam Free admission

Our world seems to be in crisis. Across numerous countries, a fierce battle for independence is being fought, fueled by economic and political motives. But how does a country gain independence? And what constitutes a country anyway? Moderator Farid Tabarki will explore this topic with, amongst others, filmmaker Ineke Smits who will take us to Abkhazia with clips from her work-in-progress titled How Sosruko Stole Fire from the Giant. Marieke de Hoon, who is an international lawyer for the Public International Law and Policy Group, will elaborate on the legal issues of conflicts such as these.

FOOD, DRINKS AND PARTY
Come to the closing night at 18:00 at de Doelen Arcadis Zaal. Awards are handed out while we applaud the filmmaking stars of tomorrow. For people with a CineMart badge we close the IFFR PRO Days with the CineMart Closing Party at De Boompjes.
