Yoo Ha

Before becoming a director, YOO Ha was a poet. His feature film debut On a Windy Day We Must Go to Apgujeong (1993) is based on one of his poems. In 2002 he directed his second feature film Marriage Is a Crazy Thing. In 2004 Yoo directed Once Upon a Time in Highschool: Spirit of Jeet Kune Do, which marked the beginning of his exploration of human violence. Yoo mentions that the military rule in Korea in the 1980s has formed his interest in violence and has shaped his creativity ever since he was a teenager. With A Dirty Carnival he continues to show his interest in violence, this time in gangster violence.
