YAN Wai Yin (1994, Hong Kong) is a writer, cellist and filmmaker based in Hong Kong. She holds a BA from School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. Since 2015, she has been a member of local artist collective Floating Projects. Yan excels at the juxtaposition and insertion of literary texts in narratives. Through shifting personal observations and the temporal, emotional distance in different texts, Yan inscribes quotidian fragments of memories lingering in space and objects. She primarily works with animation and moving images, focusing on visual motifs and repetitions by means of drawing, writing and video recording. Her film Localized Blindness won the Experimental Film Award in South Tainan Film Festival in 2020. Her screenings and shows include 35th Image Forum Festival, Japan (2021); European Media Art Festival, Germany (2021); ANIMA, 7th Taiwan International Video Art Exhibition, Taiwan (2020); and Beijing International Short Film Festival, China (2020).
