Theo Angelopoulos

Theo ANGELOPOULOS (1936-2012, Greece) was one of the most prominent and influential Greek filmmakers, screenwriters and producers. He studied Law at the University of Athens and then attended the Institut des hautes études cinématographiques in Paris. Between 1964 and 1967 he was film critic for the Athens daily Allagi. From 1972 to 1977, he made a film trilogy about modern Greek history. In a poll among critics he was deemed one of the ten most important Greek filmmakers. Various films by Angelopoulos, including The Beekeeper (1986) and Landscape in the Mist (1988), have screened in Rotterdam.
