Terrence Malick

Worldwide acclaimed filmmaker Terrence MALICK (1943, USA) graduated with a degree in Philosophy from Harvard. After translating one of Heidegger's works into English, Malick started Film Studies at the AFI. His first feature, Badlands (1973), was widely recognised as an extraordinary debut and it marked the beginning of his prosperous filmmaking career. After Days of Heaven (1987), Malick took an intermission of two decades before returning with The Thin Red Line (1998), which was awarded the Golden Bear at Berlinale and nominated for seven Academy Awards. Malick is known for his highly personal style, combining existential philosophical themes with lush cinematography and meditative editing.
