Samson YOUNG (1979, Hong Kong) is a multi-disciplinary artist working in sound, performance, video and installation. He received his BA in Music, Philosophy and Gender Studies from the University of Sydney and his M.Phil in Music Composition from the University of Hong Kong. He also graduated with a PhD in Music Composition from Princeton University in 2013. He was an assistant professor in sonic art and physical computing at the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. Young is also the principal investigator at the Laboratory for Ubiquitous Musical Expression (L.U.M.E), and artistic director of the experimental sound advocacy organisation Contemporary Musiking. Young's work is often political in nature, exploring sound as a dangerous tool for both resistance and propaganda and using it to unearth social and political dynamics. He has exhibited internationally and represented Hong Kong at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017. In 2020, Young won the inaugural Sigg Prize, a biennial award recognising important artistic practices in the Greater China region.
