Ridley Scott

Ridley Scott (South Shields, Northumberland, 1937) attended West Hartlepool College of Art and graduated from the Royal College of Art in both art and film. He went to New York on a design scholarship and joined the BBC as a set designer. He quickly moved on to directing, working on episodes of series such as 'Z Cars' and 'The Informer'. In 1967 he left the BBC to make commercials, forming his own company and rapidly becoming one of the most sought-after maker of advertising films. In the mid-1970s he began directing features, gaining a reputation as a visual stylist and technical perfectionist.
