Still: Letters from Panduranga
NGUYEN Trinh Thi is a Hanoi-based independent filmmaker and video/media artist. In her practice, she explores the power of sound and listening, and the multiple relationships between image, sound and space, with ongoing interests in memory, representation, landscape, indigeneity and ecology. Her films and media art investigate the role of memory in complex cultural histories and the position of artists in Vietnamese society. Nguyen studied journalism, photography, international relations and ethnographic film in the United States. In 2009, she founded Hanoi DOCLAB, an independent centre for documentary film and moving-image art in Hanoi. Nguyen’s films and installations have been shown at many festivals and exhibitions, including Biennale de Lyon, Asian Art Biennial, Oberhausen International Film Festival and IFFR, where her essay film Letters from Panduranga (2015) competed for a Tiger Short Award.
