Naomi Uman
Still: three sparksFilmmaker and artist Naomi UMAN (1962, USA) studied filmmaking at CalArts, graduating in 1998. She worked in ktichens and as a private chef before moving into filmmaking. Her experimental documentaries – often shot using 16mm film – are intimate portraits of others, and commonly focus on the role of women and of handiwork. They also always show her presence or her relationship to her subjects. Uman has also taught at the Fine Art Museum in Mexico City, leading workshops in handmade filmmaking. She has lived in Los Angeles and Ukraine, and is currently based in Mexico City.
