Matthias LUTHARDT (1972, Netherlands) was raised in southern Germany and Hamburg, and studied German and French literature in Paris and Hamburg. He later studied film directing at the HFF Konrad Wolf in Potsdam-Babelsberg. Lutthart's feature-length documentary Menschen brauchen Hobbies won him the Silver Wolf Award at the 2004 Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival, while his first fiction film, Pingpong, a tense drama, gained much critical acclaim and won the SACD Screenwriting Award and the Young Critics Award at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. He is also a member of the European Film Academy.
