Matteo Garrone

Matteo GARRONE (b. 1968, Italy) started working as camera assistant and painter after art school. In 1996 his short film Silhouette won a prize at the Sacher Festival (organised by Nanni Moretti). His feature debut Terra di mezzo (1997) won the prize for best film at the Turin festival Cinema Giovani. His work has been awarded at several festivals through the years. After The Embalmer (2002), which won a prize for just about every cinematographic aspect in Italy, his international art house hit Gomorrah received a Golden Globe nomination and the Grand Jury Prize in Cannes.
