Jonathan Ogilvie

Still: Lone Wolf
Jonathan OGILVIE's (1962, New Zealand) filmmaking career began as a crew member on several feature films, including working in the special-effects department on Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket (1987). This experience fuelled his desire to become a filmmaker himself and in 1990, he graduated from the Australian Film Television and Radio School. Since then he has made numerous short and feature films which have screened at major film festivals and sold internationally. Despondent Divorcee (1995) and This Film Is a Dog (1996) were both selected to run in competition at Cannes with the latter also winning first prize at Tropfest. In 2017, Ogilvie gained a PhD from Macquarie University for his thesis The Cinematics of Surveillance, with his innovative screenplay Lone Wolf (2021, IFFR 2021) serving as a case study. Head South (2024), IFFR 2024 opening film, is a semi-autobiographical work.
