Joash Calvin Omondi

Joash Calvin OMONDI is a filmmaker, editor, screenwriter and composer living in Nairobi, Kenya. He attended the United States International University in Nairobi, earning a degree in Journalism. Omondi has directed brand films and commercials for Trust condoms, Telkom Kenya, Copia, APA Insurance, Always and Suave bags as well as a music video for MTV European Music Award winners Sauti Sol. In 2017, he served as writer, editor and composer for the documentary Owino, which was nominated for the Social Impact Media Award and winner of the Best International Documentary Award at the Rome Independent Film Festival. Authenticity is a key factor in all his filmmaking, as he believes that the measure of a great piece of art always lies in striking a delicate balance between transcendence and realism. A story personal to him, his short film Jua kali/Hot Sun (2022), world premiere at IFFR, is a lens into the lives of domestic workers, often women, whose struggles and aspirations are left untold.
