Jean Garret

Jean GARRET (1947-1996) was born José Antônio Nunes e Silva in the Azores archipelago. Emigrating to Brazil, he fell into Boca do Lixo production as early as 1966, first as an actor and later as a production photographer for directors Fauzi Mansur and David Cardoso. His first project as a director came in 1975 at the behest of Cardoso, and the result was the police procedural A Ilha do Desejo. Referred to as the 'golden boy' of the Boca do Lixo, he was sought after as an extremely professional and versatile filmmaker able to take on a wide range of subject matter. He would direct nineteen features in a little over ten years, collaborating with nearly every Boca notable in a myriad of different productions that often merged sci-fi and suspense with soft and hardcore sexual elements.
