Hito Steyerl

Hito Steyerl (1966, Germany) followed media and film courses in Tokyo and Munich and obtained a PhD in Philosophy in Vienna. As the most formative parts of her education, she recalls her work as a stunt-girl and bouncer. At the moment, Steyerl works as a journalist, writer, visual artist, filmmaker and teacher. Her work focuses on media technology, political violence and desire; she collects and creates stories describing realities that are stranger than fiction. Exhibitions of her work have been held at Documenta 12 in Kassel and the Shanghai Biennial.
