Diego PIÑEROS GARCÍA (1981, Colombia) is an artist and filmmaker based in Bogotá. His artistic practice involves visual arts, low-tech installations, and paintings made with millions of tiny spheres of modelling clay and recall the visual qualities of impressionism and photorealism. His video work combines documentary, video clips and cinematic narratives. He is part of the Calderón & Piñeros collective, formed in 2013 with Elkin Calderón Guevara. Their works generate new approaches to art and cinema from hybrid perspectives and disciplines that question hegemonic forms of knowledge and power materialised in technologies, infrastructures and landscapes. They are interested in displacement as a metaphor for questioning assumptions of reality by creating connections between memory and ruins of the past. Their individual and combined works have been presented at various festivals and exhibitions internationally, including Experiments in Cinema, New Mexico (2016), Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin (2018), and Le Festival de Biarritz Amérique Latine (2020), among others. They have received various grants and awards for their works.
