Anatoly Vasiliev
Anatoly VASILIEV (1942, Russia) studied Organic Chemistry at Rostov-on-Don State University, became a researcher and professor before
entering the State Institute of theatre arts GITIS in 1968 to study theatre
directing. This was the start of a long and much awarded career as a theater
director, and also as a teacher. In 1987, Vasiliev founded the theatre School
of Dramatic Arts in Moscow. Next to theater, he also directed films and
documentaries and wrote many books. Vassiliev went into exile because of the
worsening political situation in Russia in 2006. In 2008, Vasiliev was
elected world theatre ambassador for UNESCO.
