Consolation Service

Jean-Luc Godard

One of Godard’s masterpieces, based on a newspaper report about suburban housewives turning to prostitution to pay for their latest consumer goods. The ‘her’ in the title also refers to Paris, which was undergoing traumatic ‘urban renewal’ at the time.

Deux ou trois choses que je sais d'elle

Filter City focuses on two women, their relation to each other and to a city that is in transformation - architecturally, politically and socially. The film uses scenes from modern apartment complexes that resonate with different western cities.

Filter City

Shot within a historic setting in Salzburg, Austria, this film is oriented around questions of history and violence. It researches the area between narrative film and the analysis of space within contemporary art.

Finally

A graffiti project. The urban unconscious is what interests Åsdam: the relations between subjectivity and the State, along with the dialectic between public space and private property.

In Psychastenia 2+2 the cinematoscopic is used for a physical and psychological play on the relation between the viewer and high capitalist architecture.

Amar Kanwar

Kanwar traces the story of oppression and violence through current and historic events between his native India and Pakistan. A heart searching monologue by Kanwar accompanies the images we see.

A new slide installation that elaborates on the theme of the city as a conditioning environment for the individual.

Smooth City, Smooth Space

A slightly surreal park is created with a dark light filter on the windows of the museum. Here Åsdam picks up the night-time park of the city, the temporary scene of teenage hangouts, drug trafficking and sexual adventures.

The Care of the Self Finally Edit

This repetitive visualisation of a urinating, clothed man allows for an expanded analysis of concepts such as masculinity, intimacy, sexuality, homophobia, shame and loss of control.

Untitled: Pissing

A naked man is skipping. What initially looks like a voluntary and comical action turns into something scarcely done out of free will.
