ICFR
International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) and the European Film Academy (EFA) joined forces to create the International Coalition for Filmmakers at Risk (ICFR), a permanent organisation aimed at supporting filmmakers facing political persecution for their work. The coalition aims at coordinating campaigns, publicising cases of filmmakers in peril and providing lobbying representation.

Together with many Dutch film institutions, IFFR signed a letter urging the European Parliament to do everything in its power to ensure the immediate release of Ukranian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov. Sentsov is now on day 17 of a hunger strike in a Yakutia prison. He says he will follow through until death should his demands not be met.
