Fan WU is a producer and director from Taiwan. She raises political questions about human agency and social structures through making personal films. She is an alumna of Rotterdam Lab, IDFAcademy, CIRCLE - Women Doc Accelerator, Yamagata Documentary Dojo, European MFA program DocNomads and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. She co-founded SVEMIRKO FILM with Filipino filmmaker Venice ATIENZA. Their first production LAST DAYS AT SEA, directed by Venice ATIENZA, was premiered in 71st Berlinale. Her debut project XIXI was awarded the Documentary Fund by Sundance Institute, Development Prize for the Best Female Director in DOK Leipzig 2020, and was showcased in Cannes Doc 2021. She is a member of DAE- Documentary Association of Europe.
Svemirko Film and Audiovisual Art Productions – Taiwan
Svemirko Film and Audiovisual Art Productions was co-founded by Fan Wu (Taiwan) and Venice Atienza (Philippines) with the aim to direct and produce creative documentaries with strong personal stories. Its ambition is to bring to life stories that open up universes that are often forgotten or disregarded.
Its first production Last Days at Sea, directed by Atienza, premiered at the 71st Berlinale – Generation, followed by Visions du Réel, HotDocs and many others. Its second production, Wu’s film XiXi, was awarded the Sundance Documentary Fund 2022, and the Development Prize for the Best Female Director at Dok Leipzig’s Dok Industry 2020, and was showcased in Cannes Doc - Showcase Circle in 2021. It's a member of the Documentary Association of Europe.
