Inferno rosso: Joe D’Amato sulla via dell’eccesso

  • 70'

Joe D’Amato was more notorious than famous: first as the twisted genius behind some of the most outrageous 1970s erotica (including most entries in the Laura Gemser-starring Black Emanuelle series); then as a grandmaster of splatter and shock who created often-forbidden or cut fruits like Anthropophagus (1980) and Rosso sangue (1981); finally as one of Euro porn’s finest and busiest.

And yet, he was much more: a discoverer and nurturer of talents; a craftsman hors les normes who made the most, and then some, of often less than nothing; and above all a proletarian surrealist, who served his épater-les-bourgeois dishes in the gaudiest shapes and guises possible. D’Amato was one of the last who truly made cinema until the Luce rosso end, which makes Gomarasca & Zanin’s loving portrait cum career overview of a true Italian genre legend also a story about the demise of a popular art, warts and all.

Programmed alongside: Emanuelle e Françoise – Le sorelline
