“I'll come back in 23 months, inshallah, and I'd like to find everything as I have left it.” These are the words of the Bosnian imam Ibrahim to his three sons, shortly before he has to start a two-year prison sentence. Each son is given a specific task: the eldest, Jabir, has to look for a job; Usama must care for the herd of sheep; and the youngest, Useir, must do his best at school. This intimate portrait shows how none of these really work out.
Italian filmmaker Montagner spent more than four years following the three brothers. They grow up in front of the camera. Their father’s conviction means they suddenly have to rely on themselves, and one another. For the first time in their lives they get the chance to set their own course, separate from their father’s strict vision. Each son has to answer the same question: what kind of man do I want to be?
