The IFFR Talks programme in June will present three Big Talks with Dominik Graf, Mona Fastvold and a talk that remembers the Srebrenica massacre. Pallavi Paul will also present the Freedom Lecture. All IFFR Talks are available to watch online.

Big Talk: Mona Fastvold

Big Talk with Norwegian filmmaker and actress Mona Fastvold, whose film The World to Come will open the June festival. In Fastvold’s latest feature film, two female pioneers meet in the inhospitable setting of the American frontier circa 1856. Is there a place for gentle romance in this ruthless world?

Big Talk: Srebrenica. Never Again?

Occasioned by Quo vadis, Aida? by Jasmila Žbanić − available again on demand during the June part of IFFR − a panel will discuss whether we can learn from past injustices. How can we combat contemporary intolerance and imagine a new future? Art’s power is to recognise and depict this black page in history providing new opportunities to reflect on the past. Big Talk: Dominik Graf

In 2013, IFFR honoured German auteur giant Dominik Graf with his first major international retrospective. With reference to Fabian oder Der Gang vor die Hunde, Graf discusses his vast career in television and cinema between genre and avant-garde, his love for literature and music, and the long shadows of history.

Freedom Lecture: Pallavi Paul

Indian filmmaker Pallavi Paul will present the Freedom Lecture, IFFR’s annual talk organised by political and cultural centre De Balie on the topic of freedom in the broadest sense.. Paul is selected in June’s Short & Mid-length section for her reflection on police violence in Delhi in the film The Blind Rabbit and will take her own biography and oeuvre as the starting point for a reflection on freedom and resistance in this Freedom Lecture. The Freedom Lecture is made possible thanks to the Democracy and Media Foundation.
