Three sci-fi mid-lengths premiere at the Netherlands Film Festival on September 27, making them the first IFFR-backed Videoland Academy creations to reach audiences.
In the programme of the upcoming Netherlands Film Festival (NFF) – which takes place from Friday 24 September to Saturday 2 October in Utrecht – three titles are cause for celebration at IFFR: the first results of Videoland Academy. De Sterfshow, Indringer and Verdwenen Dagen are the three ‘Grounded Sci-Fi’ mid-length films which premiere on Monday September 27 at NFF before being made available on Videoland.
Two years ago IFFR teamed up with Dutch streaming service Videoland, International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), the Netherlands Film Festival (NFF) and Dr. Script to create Videoland Academy – a talent development programme for young genre filmmakers with commercial potential. The first participants were selected for their proposals in both fiction and documentary, within the themes ‘Grounded Sci-Fi’ and ‘True Crime.’ With the backing of the three most prominent film festivals in the Netherlands, the participants were offered workshops, networking opportunities and exposure as they developed their screenplays with Videoland Academy, which also supported them to find producers for the eventual realisation of their work.
Indringer, written and directed by Jan Verdijk and produced by Keplerfilm is a ‘sultry psychological thriller’ set on a remote North Sea island, where a scientist couple are disturbed by a mysterious creature. Futuristic start-up Morpheus, which offers people the possibility to relive memories in virtual reality, is the subject of Verdwenen Dagen directed by Jim Süter, written by Bodil Matheeuwsen and also produced by Keplerfilm. Completing the evening of premieres is De Sterfshow which imagines a reality TV show in which the audience can vote for the execution of contestants – directed by Timo Ottevanger and Edson da Conceicao, written by Paul de Vrijer and produced by Umami Media. They will all be available on Videoland following the premieres on Monday September 27.
