In collaboration with Het Nieuwe Instituut, IFFR launches a new programme inviting the next generation of curators to create their own thematic programme for IFFR 2020. In addition to a curator’s fee and production budget, the selected curator(s) will receive professional guidance and connections to complete their programme. Initiator and IFFR programmer Inge de Leeuw talks about the merits of opening the doors to young talent.
"Of course IFFR has been supporting young talent for a while, notably in areas of film criticism, education and film selection," says De Leeuw. "And with IFFR's tradition of being a strongly curated festival, we felt it was only logical to invite young people to curate an entire thematic programme for the upcoming edition of IFFR. In my opinion it’s a great way to open our doors to different and exciting views and ideas."
Individuals, or collectives, of any nationality are invited to apply and no affiliation to a cultural institution is required. The focus lies on excellent and creative submissions which combine film with different disciplines like for example digital culture, visual art in an innovative programme with a strong overarching theme.
"What I'm hoping for? Something completely surprising of course! If we knew exactly what we wanted to come out of it, we could just do it ourselves..."
The deadline for initial submissions is 15 June 2019.
