IFFR on the road

This summer, IFFR is hopping from one important international film festival to the next. Locarno has come and gone, Venice is currently in full swing and Toronto is just around the corner. We’re also visiting San Sebastián and Busan in autumn.

We’re there in a literal sense: members of the IFFR team pay a visit to meet film professionals, watch films and get inspired. But we’re also there in a more indirect way: several films selected for these festivals have been supported by our Hubert Bals Fund (HBF). And at Locarno Festival they already won several prizes.

Locarno Festival 2018 (1-11 August)

HBF-supported films
Three HBF-supported films were in competition at the 71st Locarno Festival. A Land Imagined by Singaporean filmmaker Yeo Siew Hua won the Golden Leopard for Best Film. Chilean filmmaker Dominga Sotomayor won the Leopard for Best Direction with her film Tarde para morir joven. Locarno also screened the complete 14-hour film La flor by Argentinian filmmaker Mariano Llinás, of which we already screened the wonderful Parte 1 at IFFR 2017.
