IFFR 2021 travel restricted

06 May 2021

Tijger for Central Station

Travel is restricted for IFFR 2021 in June. We will maintain our focus on connecting with audiences online.

The situation concerning Covid-19 regulations in the Netherlands has not yet improved the way we were all hoping for. Travel restrictions are still in place, cinemas and restaurants are closed, and gatherings, even outdoors, are still not allowed.

These circumstances don't allow us to invite filmmakers and guests from abroad to travel to Rotterdam for the upcoming June edition. We deeply regret this situation since having filmmakers present in Rotterdam is such a vital part of the festival. Nevertheless, we are resolute on ensuring a safe event for everyone. In June we will maintain our focus on connecting our audiences with our filmmakers through our online IFFR environment.

A relief of Covid-19 regulations is expected during the course of May and might include a reopening of local cinemas with very limited capacity. When this happens we will give our audiences in the Netherlands the chance to see the festival selection on the big screen and connect virtually with our international filmmakers. Our team is doing the most it can to support filmmakers, audiences, and to make this an uplifting and festive close to IFFR 2021.
