Have I got Muse for you
Maren Kroymann of newly launched Berlin-based sales outfit M-Appeal announced the world rights acquisition of Tricks (Andrzej Jakimowski) and Ben van Lieshout’s The Muse on 27 January; both films will be screening in Time and Tide and Dutch Treats, respectively. This follows the company’s earlier pick-up of Tale 52 (Alexis Alexiou) that has its world premiere in the VPRO Tiger Awards competition on 29 January.
‘We were very convinced about Tricks because of its high aesthetic value – it is a film that deserves a big screen,’ Kroymann told the Daily Tiger yesterday. ‘Tale 52 is a psycho thriller with a non-chronological narrative, and from that point-of-view is quite original. It represents fresh, young and edgy cinema. We want to give The Muse high visibility on the circuit, but we also want to further its festival career.’
Kroymann, who previously worked at German sales outfit MDC International, will be joined by her former MDC colleague Marta Lamperova, who will handle sales and marketing. ‘I believe that Rotterdam is a suitable arena for the launch of a new sales outfit like M-Appeal,’ Kroymann commented. ‘We look forward to working with both young and experienced filmmakers, with quality films that create edgy cross-border cinema. The company will deal essentially with good arthouse films with strong international distribution potential. You must handle films with love and attention, in order to give them visibility and an international career. You also need a thorough knowledge of the different national markets and their distributors, as well as how to market a film successfully.’ NC
