Closing IFFR 2022: Return of the Tiger

16 October 2022

IFFR returned to cinemas with its IFFR 2022: Return of the Tiger event – a showcase of titles from its 51st edition competitions that could not be screened in the regular festival dates earlier in 2022. Currently, all but four of the participating titles have been shown in the Netherlands exclusively by IFFR. Over the weekend, 35 titles from Tiger Competition, Big Screen Competition and Ammodo Tiger Short Competition selections were screened to audiences in the presence of 29 filmmakers and representatives, with live Q&As and DJs into the evening. Here we recap the events of our dynamic weekend where we met to watch films together once again. The festival now looks ahead to its next full edition which takes place from Wednesday 25 January to Sunday 5 February 2023.

In the morning, filmmakers who had arrived for the event were brought on a city tour of Rotterdam. Screenings started at Cinerama with the Tiger Award Winner EAMI by Paz Encina, before an evening hosted by VPRO featuring Mabrouk El Mechri’s VPRO Big Screen Award 2022 winner, Kung Fu Zohra.

There were further Q&As before the filmmakers closed out the event together with a dinner.

Throughout the weekend, the events were covered on social media with photo and video from our gatherings, screenings, and Q&As; including exclusive impromptu interviews with filmmakers Roee Rosen, Paz Encina, Mabrouk El Mechri Marguerite de Hillerin and Félix and Dutilloy-Liégeois, which can be found on our Instagram page.
