Ami-Ro Sköld

Ami-Ro (Hanna) Sköld is a producer, director, animator, and a founder of Onoma Productions. They drew attention as the first person to premiere a film on the front page of The Pirate Bay, with 2009’s Nasty Old People. Their next feature, Granny’s Dancing on the Table, earned Ami-Ro a nomination for the Guldbagge for best director. Ami-Ro has become noted for their blend of stop motion animation with live action, also used in our upcoming release Butiken. The technique of animating by hand allows Ami-Ro to connect to their characters through the body rather than just through words and rational thought. Ami-Ro’s directing style has similar aims, relying heavily on improvisation, often using actors with little or no formal training. This way of working creates characters that are not simple tools of the script, but are rooted in the body, experiences and intuition of the actor as well as the director’s. Ami-Ro is a co-producer of all of their works, and has recently taken the step into producing the work of other directors, such as Warplay by Hemen Kurda, and My French Fevolution by Hanna Högstedt.
