Internship CineMart

At the start of every year, the city of Rotterdam lives and breathes film. Besides presenting a large and varied film programme, IFFR organises a lot of programmes and activities for the international film industry. Through financing (Hubert Bals Fonds), talent development (Rotterdam Lab, BoostNL, Indaba), a co-production market (CineMart), and various collaborations and partnerships, IFFR keeps innovating to support film professionals wherever we can. In 2025, the 54th edition of IFFR is set to take place and we are looking for two interns (f/m/x) to join our IFFR Pro team.

IFFR strives for a diverse team: a true reflection of the city of Rotterdam, where everyone is welcome, regardless of their ethnicity, economic or cultural background, religious beliefs, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, and whether or not they have a disability. We welcome applications from all who are interested in gaining experience in our organisation.

We are looking for an intern for IFFR Pro (CineMart)

An internship at IFFR Pro is the place to learn more about organising a large event, film financing and production, sales & distribution and setting up a network within the international film industry. You will meet with filmmakers and over 2,300 industry guests, who you will help to feel at home in a highly professional and warm festival environment.

About the CineMart internship

CineMart is the co-production market of IFFR: a platform where filmmakers and producers present their new films in development to potential partners (sales agents, TV buyers, producers, distributors and funds). Over 600 international professionals join CineMart to meet with the selected projects. Some examples of films that found partners at CineMart are: Borgman by Alex van Warmerdam, Force majeure by Ruben Östlund, Zama by Lucrecia Martel, Jojo Rabbit by Taika Waititi and The Lobster by Yorgos Lanthimos. Working at CineMart means teamwork, and you’ll become an important member of the team who carries responsibility for a variety of challenging tasks, ranging from administration and hands-on to content and communication.

  • What will you do?

    • You will work on the entire selection process; from administration in our database, assessing the projects, collecting all necessary materials to communicating with the project teams.
    • Keeping the database and inbox up-to-date.
    • Assisting in sending and collecting information for CineMart mailings, press releases and digital communications.
    • You will be responsible for hospitality tasks related to CineMart guests (project teams, juries, mentors).
    • Assisting in setting up and running all CineMart-related networking events and programmes.
    • You will assist the IFFR Pro team where necessary: this can involve our talent development initiatives, special programmes like the Darkroom or IFFR Pro Immersive, and logistical support when hosting social gatherings for industry professionals.
  • Who are we looking for?

    • You are following a course in the field of film, culture, media, entertainment, or leisure management.
    • You have excellent social, organisational and communication skills.
    • You master the English language in both speech and writing. English is the main language used at IFFR – both internally and externally.
    • You are a natural with digital innovations tools and apps, Google Workspace, and are quick to understand how to work with new digital databases.
    • You have an affinity for IFFR and/or films in general and are interested in broadening your knowledge of the film (festival) industry.
    • You are eager to take initiative, curious and, most importantly, open to asking questions.
    • You are hands-on, curious, resilient, open-minded and can handle time pressure. You don’t mind having to alternate multiple tasks quickly. And above all: you’re a team player.
    • Sometimes you’ll work longer days, sometimes shorter days – being comfortable with flexibility is a must.
    • You preferably live in Rotterdam or in the vicinity of Rotterdam.
  • What can you expect from us?

    • You will gain insight and have a considerable role in the organisation of one of the leading film festivals in the world.
    • You will learn hands-on how various elements of the film festival industry work.
    • You will strengthen your communication skills in English (and if applicable Dutch) on a professional level and will have the opportunity to broaden your network within the film industry.
    • You are encouraged to think along on work processes within the IFFR Pro team and take the initiative in improving and implementing them.
    • You will be part of a passionate and fun team in an open and informal setting.
    • You will receive an organisation badge, which means you will have access to the public programme during the festival.
  • Working period & compensation

The CineMart internship runs from September 2024 to mid-February 2025 (5.5 months). In September and October, you will be working 3 days a week, and from November you will be working 5 days a week.
