Kick off the June chapter of our 50th edition with our opening film The World to Come: a romantic frontier drama by Norwegian filmmaker and actress Mona Fastvold. The film is part of IFFR 2021’s Harbour lineup.
Official Opening Film IFFR 2021 in June: The World to Come. “There is something between us I just can’t fathom.” This is how pioneer Abigail describes her feelings for her new neighbour. A gorgeous, devastating love story centred around a relationship between two women that challenges male-dominated frontier society. Director Mona Fastvold captures the harsh nature of America in all its romance and ruthlessness.
The film will be shown physically and online on Wednesday 2 June at 19:00 (CEST) – without a 72-hour-on-demand option – to mark the opening of the festival, followed by three physical screenings in Rotterdam cinemas during the festival.
Also see Big Talk: Mona Fastvold. Please note: the screening of this film on Wed 2 June, 19:30 is for invitees only!
