Goals at CineMart We are looking for co-production opportunities, sales agents and financing partners worldwide. We are very interested in meeting co-producers from Belgium. Next to that, we are looking for creative input and feedback from the international film community. We&rsquo;d like to meet and exchange ideas with filmmakers from all over the world.Synopsis Marionettes is a dark and moody film that explores the struggle between conforming to belong and staying true to who we really are. It&rsquo;s the summer holidays and 11-year-old Lola moves to a small village with her parents. Here, she becomes fascinated by a group of slightly detached, white-faced children. She learns that they are taking part in a theatre production, in which they play marionettes that are imprisoned by an evil witch.Lola manages to join this group of uncanny - but in her eyes cool - kids. Spurred on by the dark and dangerous games they play in the forest, the children begin crawling into the skin of their characters; their movements become stiff and their faces turn pale. As soon as they surrender their will to the group, the children slowly lose their grip on reality and gradually turn into identical puppets. Lola becomes more and more entangled in the group and morphs into a marionette, like the others. Then, suddenly, group dynamics turn against her and the macabre ideas of the group clash hard with her most precious, heart-felt beliefs. When Lola realises that she could become responsible for the death of an innocent woman, she is forced to decide how much she&rsquo;s willing to sacrifice to belong.Director's Biography Arianne has a Master&rsquo;s Degree in Psychology and has studied Directing at the filmArche in Berlin. Arianne&rsquo;s films and documentaries typically feature child protagonists, but her style is dark and she doesn&rsquo;t shy away from heavy topics. Her films - for which she also wrote the screenplays - have won prizes at international film festivals, including the evo Promotional Award at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. Arianne currently lives in Amsterdam and is working on her first feature film.

Marionettes is a dark and moody film about about 11-year-old Lola, who is desperate to belong to a sinister group of children, playing marionettes in a theatre production. Once the children start identifying with their characters, they gradually turn into the identical puppets they play. When the marionettes plan to murder an innocent woman, Lola has to ask herself how much she is willing to sacrifice in order to belong.
