Talk: Blackness and Our Rituals Towards the Realities of Belonging

Departing from the incantation proposed by G/D THYSELF: Spirit Strategy On Raising Free Black Children, this conversation focuses on the healing power of spiritual practices. Ancestral cosmologies, Afrodiasporic communities engaging with intergenerational traumas, and fragmented identities, reveal ways in which Blackness is involved in daily processes of creating one's own reality. How do communities of African descent, in Rotterdam and elsewhere, use ritual to shape multiple forms of belonging while creating new identities?

With filmmaker and nomadic doctor in general practice Njoki Ngumi, from The Nest Collective in Kenya (Tapi!); filmmaker Nuno Miranda from Cape Verde's Negrume (Kmêdeus); author of the book Afropean and tv presenter Johny Pitts from the UK; curator and cultural programmer Amal Alhaag and artist and writer Charl Landvreugd from the Netherlands and members of The Ummah Chroma, from the US and the UK, who will discuss their installation G/D THYSELF. The conversation is moderated by writer and cultural programmer Simone Zeefuik.
