Paris, 1979. Young and innocent Rose (Galatea Bellugi) and Michel are living their first love story to the fullest. Their haunt is Le Palace, the
hippest club in town where artists, celebrities and freaks feast and
dance the night away. There they meet Lucille (Isabelle Huppert) and
Herbert, a rich, decadent, bourgeois couple who suck them into a bizarre love
square.
Une jeunesse dorée is once again autobiographical and a spiritual sequel to Ionesco’s first feature My Little Princess (2011) which also starred Huppert. She recreates the glitzy, wild parties of her youth and delivers an eerie, fur-and-velvet-upholstered coming-of-age story where the young are enlightened, tried out and consumed by wolf-like adults. Graced with the sexiness of 1960s Brigitte Bardot and the kitschy appeal of Mae West, actress Galatea Bellugi is dressed fashionably and in sheep’s clothing in this fairy tale written with lipstick traces and make-up.
