During the late 1960s/early 1970s, future horror movie maestro Joe Dante and soon-to-be producer extraordinaire Jon Davison performed all-nighters on the campus circuit for which they remixed B-movies, commercials, instructional films, etc., under the title The Movie Orgy. No two performances were quite the same, with Dante and Davison constantly taking footage in and out, often motivated by the deteriorating state of prints.
So, films that initially formed the backbone of these shows, like I Was a Teenage Werewolf (1957; Gene Fowler Jr.), Queen of Outer Space (1958; Edward Bernds) or Little Shop of Horrors (1960; Roger Cormanm and Charles B. Griffith & Mel Welles), diminished in importance to the performance’s structure, with items like Speed Crazy (1959; William J. Hole Jr.), Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (1958; Nathan H. Juran) or Earth Vs. the Flying Saucers (1956; Fred F. Sears) taking over. The Ultimate Version is all that remains of The Movie Orgy. Not live, but still mind-expanding.
