Placer y martirio

Campusano departs from his usual characters and delves into a social universe unrelated to bikers, pimps, and heavy-metal musicians. In an unexpected turn in this director's career, the characters in Placer y martirio belong to the upper middle class.

The narrative centre of the film revolves around a married woman who falls in love – in a sick way – with a mysterious businessman called Kamil. As in all of Campusano's films, the storyline moves in a fluid way. And, in a formidable scene close to the end of the movie, the cleaning woman and the lady who owns the house drink a couple of glasses of wine while eating something in the living room. There, the film's point of view is revealed and it goes far beyond the obvious erotic vampirism which determines the behaviour of its main characters.
