Paula (Laetitia Dosch) is broke, in a stolen coat, has a fresh scratch on her forehead and is pretty upset. She was with her former lecturer for a decade and now he’s dumped her. In revenge she kidnaps his cat and starts roaming Paris. Precariously close to being homeless the former ‘girlfriend of’ tries to reinvent herself. To this end, she accommodates everyone she meets whether it be a lesbian who thinks she’s a former classmate or a young mother looking for an au pair.

Alongside being a character study of an unmoored individual, Jeune femme can be seen as a portrait of a generation. Paula is a wandering thirty-something who has never been tested, but also has no perspectives. As she says herself: "I feel nostalgic about things I haven’t done yet."
