BEWAREN – of hoe te leven

Keeping things is one way of life. A house full of things: from spare buttons, lace handkerchiefs and albums filled with cigar bands to – in the case of director and producer Digna Sinke (After the Tone, IFFR 2014) – folders filled with correspondence and film scripts. Unbridled, youthful bravura, everything stored away, yet tangibly present. Is this how to remember – and so how to live?
A laptop and, oh yes, a passport. The digital nomad needs no more earthly possessions. Because work – and hence life! – can be anywhere: preferably with your feet in the surf on Bali. Photograph your dearest memories and enjoy the moment. Because is life not mainly looking forward?

With her characteristic ingenuity, observations and light-hearted humour, Sinke first traveled through her own then a universal present and past. From her own desk drawers, via an attic in Zeeland and a Roman palace to tropical climes. Every turn encourages reflection: why do we keep things, and how do we remember?
