Totes Adorbs ❤️ Hurricane

'Hysterical' could be a euphemism for the Japanese disco-pop performances by Miss Revolutionary Idol Berserker. Choreographer Toco Nikaido creates a radically chaotic world made up of J-pop music, dance steps, glitter, costume changes and a confetti storm. Choreographies are performed with great precision against the backdrop of constant confusion on stage. The Berserker warriors, with their army of glowsticks and cute props, whip up the audience and bring everyone to an ecstatic climax with their ravings. But if you look closely, you might also notice that this seeming chaos is an illusion – the footsure choreography is carried out by an army with almost robotic discipline.

Shows by Miss Revolutionary Idol Berserker are both a homage to Japanese youth culture and a criticism of the obsessive super-fandom that surrounds Japanese pop idols. The countless references to popular culture – anime, strips, the internet – result in a hypersensitive spectacle in which we are almost afraid to blink.

Their latest creation, Totes Adorbs ❤️ Hurricane (totally adorable) world premieres in Rotterdam, promising a 360-degree experience that forces us to reassess our role: are we spectators or performers? Processing such an overdose of stimuli all at the same time just isn't physically possible, so there’s no alternative to just surrendering yourself to this explosion of pop culture. Totes adorbs!

Please note that this performance features stroboscopic lighting effects. It is not suitable for people who suffer from epileptic episodes.
